Management of Change Using Project Integration Knowledge

Managing change is very important life skill and more so in unique endeavors like projects. For successful change management in a project environment the processes need to be capable of managing change across all the knowledge areas. The knowledge area Project Integration of PMBoK® includes the processes and activities needed to identify, define, combine, unify, and coordinate the various processes and project management activities within the Project Management Process Groups.

This includes activities of unification, consolidation, articulation, and integrative actions that are crucial to project completion, successfully managing stakeholder expectations, and meeting requirements.

This involves making choices about making trade-offs among competing objectives and alternatives, resource allocation and managing the inter dependencies among the project management knowledge areas. The processes in this knowledge area are discrete and have defined interface but sometimes overlapping between these processes is possible depending on business environment.

In PMBoK® 4th edition there are six processes in this knowledge area. This is the only knowledge area which has processes in all the process groups.
